Saturday morning we were packed and ready to go! We headed to Pittsburgh for our Pitt vs Utah game! WAHOO!!! Poor Chris had worked all night and the plan was to let him sleep...however...you don't get the greatest sleep in the car...poor guy. But for 3 hours and 45 minutes...we were on the road. Thank heavens for Disney's Halloween and Portable DVD players! They were lifesavers and kept the peanut gallery quiet!
Pennsylvania in the Fall is AMAZING! I have never seen the colors of trees like this...they definitely aren't like this in the West. I tried to get a picture of the beauty...but hence driving 75mph down the highway trying to be a photographer doesn't always produce the best quality of pictures...but still quite pretty.
When you drive from Hershey to Pittsburgh you take the 76 Penn Turnpike...a toll road (PS...it costs $14.95 to drive on said road all the way to Pitt). Because of the said, toll road, there are "Plazas" or places where you can get off, eat, stretch, get gas, potty...etc. without having to pay a toll. So We pulled off at about half way to get the boys to the restroom and Chris stayed in the car for some much needed quiet time. As we were going into the Plaza, I was holding the door for the boys and for some people coming out. The boys were excited to be able to move around and rushed right into the Plaza. I turned to tell them to wait and smacked...cracked...whacked...I don't know how to describe it, but I hit my nose on a brick wall (who does that?) and heard a GIANT CRACK! It startled me a bit, but I moved on. My eyes got teary and as I felt my nose, I thought, "Oh my gosh, I think I just broke my nose on a wall." The tears came as I rushed the boys into the bathroom to go potty...to0 afraid to look at my face. After potty-ing was taken care of, I looked in the mirror and sure enough my nose is a bit swollen, blue-ish-black and has a sort of scrape where I had hit the brick wall. A few emotions came over me instantly...
1. Oh-my-heck...how embarrassing...who breaks their nose on the wall? (someone who breaks their hand running and gets a bobby pin stuck in her foot...interested? here's the post.)
2. Joy! (though I hate to admit it) for as long as I can remember, I have HATED...maybe even loathed my nose. It dominates my face and I have always said that if I was to get plastic surgery tomorrow it would be a nose job...well insurance doesn't pay for nose jobs...but they do pay for broken noses ;)
3. Pain...yes...it was throbbing...eyes still watering and I kept thinking...well this sucks!
When we got back to the car, I had Chris look at it and he said...yeah...you really hit it...now how did you do that? We had a good laugh, got some Advil to help with the pain and swelling and were on our way. (so if my nose looks extra big in these pictures...its not a figment of your imagination...it is the real deal)
Needless to say...nose is still a bit swollen and sore and it gives me a headache...but who knows (lol)? I'll keep you updated...and now back to the trip!
Welcome to Pittsburgh...traffic was crazy and parking was a little confusing..but we made it! Here is a pic of Heinz stadium as we drove past it in our car.
We ended up parking across the river....While we waited for the elevator we got some quick shots...there weren't a ton of Utah fans....but enough to make us feel welcome and we wore our Red and Black with Pride!
It was also rather FREEZING and windy...so we were bundled up...the boys weren't too excited to have their pictures taken yet.
Rather than walking all the way to the stadium in the freezing cold...we hopped on a water taxi that delivered us to the field. I think it was one of the boys' favorite parts of the trip.
looking at the Ohio River
PNC baseball stadium from the boat
Heinz field...it is truly a spectacular looking field!
Once we got there...we had much drama trying to get in...apparently your purse can only be so big and mine was past the limit...after much frustration and tears we made it in -minus all snacks that I had made (sandwiches, cookies...because my boys have only wanted jelly sandwiches lately.)
We had AWESOME seats! I knew they were going to be decent...but they turned out to be AMAZING! We were able to see the action right up close...we were surrounded by PITT fans...but it was fun anyways. I always like football games because I find it quite comical how angry old men (and young) get at refs, coaches, players. I think I laughed more in those 4 hours than I have in a long time.
Here is Logan before he slept...he slept on me for about 1.5 hours...little dude!
Tracen didn't want to be photographed and he only sat in his seat for about 30 minutes before he sat with Chris. I don't know why they make you buy tickets for the little guys :(
Me & Chris...plus Logan
Can you guess who won? You betta believe it...the UTAH UTES (26 - 14)! It was funny...the stands cleared as the Pitt fans were so ANGRY at their team...another comical moment!
After the game, I wanted to get a pic of Chris with the boys...but they did not want to cooperate! LOL...whats new?
Finally Tracen decided to cooperate
Us at the stadium...Yay Utah and Yay for a super fun Saturday!
After the game we walked by the river (the weather had cleared up a bit and the boys really just needed some time to run.) It was really nice to look at the city. I think before we leave PA, we are going to try and do a mini-vacation to Pitt again where we can actually explore the city a bit. It is such a cool city!
To finish out our adventure we ate at the Yummy-licious Cheesecake Factory. The boys were so good all day...it was such a good time. Thanks Chris for turning 30 and getting old!
